LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Philadelphia- A Birthday Wish
By Meg Brunson
Eleanor's 6th birthday was unique because it was our first birthday to celebrate since we ditched our "sticks and bricks" home and started traveling the US in an RV. Ever since visiting LEGOLAND California, two years ago, Eleanor has really wanted to visit LEGOLAND Discovery Center for her birthday. Lucky for her, we happened to be an hour north of the Philadelphia LEGOLAND Discovery Center, so we could fulfill that wish for her!
Now, we knew that LEGOLAND Discovery Center would be different from LEGOLAND California (which is an amusement park). The Discovery Center is located within Plymouth Meeting Mall in Philly - so we knew not to expect roller coasters... but something more like an indoor play center.
When the folks at LEGOLAND Discovery Center heard it was Eleanor's birthday, they went the extra mile to make the day memorable for her (and all of us, really!). Eleanor was greeted with a birthday present (a little birthday cake LEGO set), and they offered us use of one of their party rooms where we were treated to a modified birthday party - the kids got to make minifigures for keeping & trading, everyone left with a goodie bag, and we had a little "homebase" as we played throughout the day. It was so wonderful - and a testament to the caliber of people working with LEGOLAND - one of the reasons I will sing their praises and recommend them for everything from birthday parties to playdates!
Now, let me tell you about all the things to do when you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Center - it surpassed my expectations! First of all - there were 2 different 4-D movies that played throughout the day. The kids loved wearing the 3D glasses and watching the story jump off the screen - and then feeling the wind and water of the movie in our seats!
We LOVED checking out the Miniland replica of Philadelphia (though it did not seem very mini - lol - it was a BIG and impressive display!). Alex (my 8 year old) loved the LEGO Ninjago Training Camp, and especially the laser maze! We were not expecting any rides, so we were surprised to discover the Imagination Express - an interactive train ride where you can earn points using your magic wand and play various games that project on the walls. The little ones loved playing on Pirate Adventure Island - a multi-level indoor play center... and of course, there are TONS of opportunities to build with LEGOs!
There was so much to do - and we had SO much fun! If you are in the Philadelphia area, you need to go check out LEGOLAND Discovery Center. Visit their website and start planning your next day trip at https://philadelphia.legolanddiscoverycenter.com/! And, if you are NOT near Philly - that's okay too! There are 13 other locations throughout the US/Canada. Visit https://www.legolanddiscoverycenter.com/ to see if there is one near you - and if there is not, keep this place in mind if you're travelin! This is a place where you can spend the whole day - there is a TON to keep all ages engaged and entertained!
