Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

VISIONS summer programs are grounded in a philosophy that has been changing the lives of teenagers for 35 years.

Across all locations we have one model, where personal transformation and powerful community-building are the result of high-impact service projects accomplished with local friends and partners.

VISIONS is also a 100% tech-free program.

Teen volunteers become part of daily life in the host community, making local friends through an immersion experience that builds a sense of global connection. They accomplish construction projects, social service with children, and environmental & animal welfare initiatives.

Ages: 14 through 18, or rising freshman to graduating senior

2024 Summer Program Locations: Montana Blackfeet Indian Reservation, Peru, Dominican Republic, British Virgin Islands

PROGRAM LOCATIONS

Deep-rooted connections with our communities create an experience where teens are brought in like family, and service is our way of thanking local people for sharing their lives with us. The projects you accomplish are one way to leave part of yourself in a place of importance, just as you will take part of that place and its life lessons with you.

Montana Blackfeet Indian Reservation: 31 years of projects ranging from carpentry to serving meals to children, environmental initiatives and setting up ceremonial tipi lodges with local partners, all while living in the dramatic landscape of the Northern Rockies on an 1100 acre conservation ranch. You'll experience Plains Indian indigenous culture with community members who welcome you like an old friend. Time is also spent in the great outdoors, at the foothills of Glacier National Park, connecting with the land in the same way that you'll be connecting with new friends and new experiences.

Dominican Republic: More than 3500 Dominican children attend classes every year in schools that VISIONS teens and local partners have constructed over our 31 years working in this most vibrant of countries. We also lead a popular summer camp and shed any inhibitions while living in the heart of a joyful neighborhood where kids and elders alike help us with Spanish skills and bring us in for games, meals, dance lessons, and more. Time connecting with the natural world finds us at a mountainous lake, the beach, and short hikes.

Peru: Our homebase in the Sacred Valley of the Inca has welcomed VISIONS groups for 24 years. We help Quechua indigenous communities on a lifeblood project: water. Add your name to the legacy of miles of water canals constructed with humble farmers whose crops and livelihoods would otherwise be in peril from the increasing drought conditions. The days are joyful and fun working together, and there's also plenty of time for exploration: Machu Picchu, ancient ruins, sprawling markets, chocolate-making workshops, and more.

British Virgin Islands: The BVI is another location where VISIONS teens have been making a difference for more than three decades. These shorter sessions are an introduction to service, which is focused on local schools and environmental initiatives. When we're not working, we're taking in the island's natural wonders through scuba, swimming, hikes and spending time with friends whose Afro-Caribbean heritage spans many generations.
