7th grade brings new interests and challenges for Merci Suárez. At school she is trying to step out of her older brother’s shadow, take on new leadership roles, and figure out how to merengue her way out of the upcoming school dance. At home her beloved grandfather, Lolo, is slipping deeper into Alzheimer’s, and her aunt is preoccupied with a new love interest. On top of all that Merci is starting to feel the pangs of her own first crush.

Join Meg Medina for a further peek into the life of Merci and the rest of the Suárez family first introduced in the Newbery Medal winning, Merci Suárez Changes Gears. The heartwarming sequel, Merci Suárez Can’t Dance, reminds us that middle school can be the pits, but with a bit of humor and love you can survive.
